Morningside UMC is a predominantly Korean American ministry based in New York City near Columbia University seeking to impact the larger community with the love of Christ. Morningside UMC is comprised of people from all walks of life – families, couples, young adults, college students, youth, and children.

Position Description:

The Youth Pastor is responsible for developing and implementing programs for the youth (grades 7-12) that promote community, spiritual growth and Christian discipleship. Activities include, but are not limited to:


  • preparing and delivering Sunday sermons
  • preparing and leading Bible studies
  • planning and carrying out monthly fellowship activities
  • planning and leading yearly youth retreats
  • managing the youth group budget
  • building relationships with students and parents by maintaining  regular communications
  • advising and working with youth group teachers
  • participating in monthly church leadership meetings
  • fostering partnerships with other youth groups in the Tri-State area
  • managing church administrative duties

Position Requirements:

  • College degree. Candidates with or currently pursuing a seminary degree preferred.
  • Candidate should have a high level of energy, who can effectively communicate with youth and be a self-starter who can come up with and promote new initiatives.
  • Some familiarity with Korean-American culture preferred. The youth group members themselves are either from Morningside UMC or our sister church, Korean Methodist Church & Institute.

Salary and Benefits:
  • $1,200 / month
  • Two weeks paid time off per year (as per vacation policy)
  • Transportation stipend possible for candidates living outside NYC
