Resident Book and Movie Critic
Our Surly Book and Movie Critic
John L. Ng, aka St. John Divine is a good friend with whom I have had the privilege of working with for many years. Over those years I found John to be surly on occasion, too negative too often, and downright too depressing at times. I can say all these things about him because...they are all true. But, to know him is to love him. He is a good friend. He is a caring person. And he loves God. What more do you need to know?
Well, he is also someone who is insightful, observant, knowledgeable and a prolific reader; all of which helps make him a book and movie critic par excellence. And I would be remiss if I failed to mention that he is also a wordsmith, who works hard at keeping his writing concise while penetrating. I could also say that he is someone who looks unkindly upon anyone who dares to edit his masterpieces...trust me, I speak from experience... but I don't take it personally because I know John chooses every word he writes carefully.
My only retort to him is, "I can't help it if God made you human."
Enjoy the reviews. You might find some challenging to understand...don't worry that's normal. And if you would like to write John about one of his reviews you can do that by clicking here.
PS Don't expect a quick reply. When we worked together, it took me years to convince him to open his email more than once a week. Because he considers me a good friend, he agreed to open his email twice a week. But, alas he is now retired and may have reverted to his former habit of once a week or even less! Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
