Asian American Ministries:: What do you think about hosting annual ABC/OBC dialogues?
Howard posted a "NEWS" item about hosting annual ABC/OBC dialogues in the New York/New Jersey region. You are invited to read the "short story" behind this idea (click on "News" in the left column under "main menu" and look up "Hosting Annual ABC/OBC Dialogues" dated October 18, 2008) and share your thoughts and comments about the idea here.

Asian American Churches:: Shortage of English Ministries Pastors
(Guest dj wonders why its quite around here...maybe not too many people use it, yet? Wouldn't make too much of it, yet)

I observe that the shortage of AA ministers is not limited, nor unique to AA churches. The mainline "Anglo" churches also have the same challenge. In the Presbyterian (PCUSA) and Reformed Church in Americ (RCA), they share similar stats: within 5-10 yrs, 40% of their ministers are of retiring age. 5 yrs ago, only 7% of their ministers were under age 34 (I don't know why they stopped at 34).

In the Chinese language churches, its also increasingly becoming difficult to find a chinese language pastor for the Chinese language congregation.

So, I think the question is bigger than what's wrong or right with the AA church. It may be a societal, cultural shift that caught the whole Church off guard.

My two cents re AA churches specifically, though, are that the Chinese language congregation and the English language congregation just don't speak the same language. They do not think the same, do not measure success the same, and indeed, probably have different goals. Resolving these matters will make for a more effective ministry.

I'm no expert in the post-modern mindset, but from what i am learning of it, I think that this whole PM thing may have something to do with this issue...perhaps a resistance to the whole pastorhood (priesthood) thing all over again?

BL
Flushing, NY

PaLM Website:: Welcome to the new site!
Yeah, we actually did think about having users register, but we didn't want to make people feel like they "had" to register since all of the site is available for use without logging in.

You do bring up a good point with regards to the forum.

I'll bring the idea back to the team, and we'll see. :)

Christianity:: Is there such a thing as Christian politics?
Garry Wills doesn't think so. Wills is a professor emeritus of history at Northwestern University and the author, most recently, of "What Jesus Meant."

Here's a link to his OpEd piece in the NYTimes:
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/04/09/opinion/09wills.html?ex=1302235200&en=2b516fee0ab5093f&ei=5090&partner=rssuserland&emc=rss
